For this purpose, appropriate training, in accordance with the technology to be developed to face the current market demands must be provided, efficient production models have to be furnished, and the participation in farmer associations should be strengthened since it would result in improved business skills.

On the other hand, it is necessary to face the determining social and agro-climatic factors of each area, and to insure the provision of the required supplies in addition to the market and logistics channels.

Correspondingly, the effectiveness of Government backing should be increased through its involvement in the creation and improvement of water and energy supply infrastructures, the improvement of road infrastructures, improvement in the communication of incidental natural disasters and the rapid restoration of communication systems and electricity following such occurrences, as well as economic support either aimed at the fostering of private production or at R&D whose objective is to resolve producers' practical problems.

Direct Beneficiaries:

  • Producers and their associations in the Member States of CARICOM, since will be able to improve the yield of their production and meet the demands of the current market;
  • The institutions involved in agriculture in these countries, whose capacities will be strengthened as a result of the training of their technicians in high yield crop technologies.

Indirect Beneficiaries:

  • The region’s general population, that will benefit from an increase of local produce offer;
  • The tourism sector, and particularly hotel chains, which will be able to cover a portion of their demand with local produce which is of the quality demanded by their customers. They will also be players involved in meeting the project objectives, since they form part of the demand giving rise to the development of this supply of fruit and vegetable products.
